Caring for your Jewellery

Sarah Zel Chescoe Jewellery is handcrafted with the highest quality 925 Sterling Silver and semi-precious stones and requires equally superior care. Please follow these care instructions to preserve the longevity of your jewellery.

STORAGE
  • Store your item of jewellery separately in the fabric pouch provided or a jewellery case.
AVOID
  • Avoid contact with liquids and chemicals including perfume, sea water, sweat, moisturiser, oils, vinegar and chlorine. Consistent contact with these liquids will damage your piece of jewellery over time.
  • Perfume, hairspray and other cosmetics should be applied before putting on your jewellery as these can harm and negatively affect the jewellery and damage the surface of pearls, crystals and stones.
  • Do not expose your jewellery to humidity (bathrooms) and ensure it is not stored in direct sunlight (please polish your jewellery more frequently if in humid environments).
  • Jewellery should not be worn while working in the house or garden, whilst bathing or in in bed, while swimming or during fitness activities.
SILVER JEWELLERY CARE
  • Polish your jewellery regularly with a professional Silver polishing cloth only, (especially after wear in hot, humid or wet environments).
  • Do not use a Silver cloth on semi-precious stones and crystals, including: freshwater pearls, lapis lazuli, larimar, garnet, opal, red coral, turquoise.
  • To ensure your earrings do not fall out, gently squeeze the earring hooks together once they are in the ear.
  • Jewellery needs to be treated with care. Even the highest quality materials can snap or break if they are mishandled. Please ensure when bending or adjusting a piece that you do not use too much force. These pieces are made to last, but will not handle extreme bending, force or rough handling.
  • Displaying your jewellery in humid conditions or in cabinets under strong or direct lighting will accelerate tarnishing. Please take care to polish these regularly while on display.
  • All Sterling Silver will tarnish over time. The amount of tarnishing (oxidation) that occurs is dependent on the skin and care habits of the wearer but it will happen much faster when it comes into contact with agents such as perfume, skin creams, hairspray, salty air, sulphur in the air, chlorine, chemicals, sea water, perspiration and acidic skin ph. Tarnishing is not a manufacturing fault.
GEMSTONE, PEARL AND CRYSTAL CARE
Sarah Zel Chescoe hand selects semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, crystals and gemstones of the highest quality. As these products are natural, colours, shape and texture will vary slightly across each piece.
  • Store jewellery separately, ideally in a fabric pouch or wrapped in a soft cloth.
  • Take care to avoid hitting semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, crystals and gemstones against hard surfaces or surfaces that cause abrasion as they may be scratched, cracked, chipped or shatter under impact.
  • Semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls, crystals and gemstones must not come into contact with perfume, make-up or hairspray. Their surface is damaged by alcohol or other solvents and chemicals.
  • Do not use a Silver cloth on semi-precious stones and crystals, including: freshwater pearls, lapis lazuli, larimar, garnet, opal, red coral, turquoise.
